The Jam

FAQ
Q: When is the jam? A: 7:30 pm on Sunday nights at McGeary's in Albany. A host band plays an hour set, followed by the open jam. We play every week, with the exception of a few holiday weekends when most folks are away. Q: Where do I park? A: There is plenty of free parking available near McGeary's on Sunday nights.Option #1: Parking lot two doors over from McGeary's. Enter from Chapel St., behind McGeary's.
Option #2: First Church parking lot off of Pearl St. Enter from Chapel or Sheridan. Parking is free on Sundays and the lot is usually empty.
Option #3: Street parking. On Sunday nights there is plenty of street parking within a block of McGeary's.
Q: Is there a cover charge? A: There’s no cover charge, but donations are *highly* encouraged. There’s a bucket at the front of the stage for donations and this goes directly to the host band, who brought their gear for you to use. $5 is the suggested donation. Throw in some extra if you’re feeling the love. Q: How do I sign up? A: There’s a sign-up sheet, usually on the first table as you walk in. Q: How much do I get to play? A: Everyone gets to play a 3 song set. Please don’t abuse this and make one of them a 20 minute jam. Q: Who will I play with? A: The jam master groups people together based on what instruments they play and a combination of people he thinks will play well together, whenever possible. Q: Can I play with my band? A: Sure, just put the band name on the sign-up sheet. Q: How do I host? A: Get in touch with Jeremy to make arrangements: jeremy@crbn.org You'll need to bring a drum kit, PA, bass amp, and (at least) one guitar amp. Q: What should I bring? What gear is there for me to use? A: There is always a drum kit, bass amp, 2 guitar amps, and full PA. You just need to bring your instrument. There isn’t usually a keyboard to use, but you’re welcome to bring one and we’ll plug you in to the PA. Q: Can I bring my own amp? A: Nobody will tell you no, but we don’t encourage it. We try to switch groups pretty quickly, so you should be able to set up in just a couple of minutes. Bring a couple of pedals that you can use to get a good sound with any amp. Q: Strictly blues? A: We’re not purists, but you should play blues-related music. Q: Who chooses the songs? A: The singer calls the songs. If there’s a song you really want to play, you should learn to sing it. Q: Do I need to be 21 to get in? A: Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and liquor is only served to adults over 21. Q: Can I play Mustang Sally? A: If you do, it had better be the best version of Mustang Sally we’ve ever heard. Try not to play the most over-played songs. Also note that you should only play Sweet Home Chicago if you’re actually from Chicago. The Jam happens every Sunday at 7:30 at McGeary's Pub
